
About Waynesboro, VA
Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley near Interstate 64 and eight miles south of Interstate 81, Waynesboro if full of small town charm. Originally named for General Anthony Wayne, the area was first recognized by the state of Virginia in 1801. Although many travelers passed through the area, the city was slow to grow until after the civil war when two railroads were constructed that crossed each other near the city, giving it the nickname, “iron cross”.
Today, Waynesboro has approximately 22,000 residents and is home to a few manufacturing plants including, Invista and Mohawk United. Waynesboro also houses Ntelos Corporate headquarters, a regional wireless and telecommunications company. In nearby Stuarts Draft, VA Hershey’s, Hollister, and Target Distribution employ many of the local residents making it easy to live and work in the same community.
Waynesboro residents enjoy a wide variety of activities within the community including the Annual Fall Foliage Festival in October and well as the annual commemoration of the 1865 civil war battle that ended the war in the Shenandoah Valley. Residents also have access to cultural arts through the P. Buckley Moss Museum, Shenandoah Valley Art Center, and the Artisans Center of Virginia.
Waynesboro residents enjoy beautiful four-season weather with average temperatures in the summer of 83.4°F and in the winter 44.9°F.
